Atletico Madrid kept their European hopes alive with victory on Sunday as Deportivo recorded an important win for their survival hopes.
Antoine Griezmann netted a brace, in the 3-0 win over Valencia, with his first goal on 10 minutes before adding a second seven minutes from time, either side of a 48th minute Kevin Gameiro goal.
Atletico remained in fourth, but moved onto 49 points, six behind Sevilla in third, 10 behind Real Madrid and 11 adrift of leaders Barcelona.

Valencia remained in 13th with 29 points.
Deportivo La Coruna had Pedro Mosquera to thank for his first-half injury-time goal in their 1-0 win over Sporting Gijon to remain four clear of 18th-placed Granada, on 23 points in 17th place.
Sporting ended the weekend in 19th with 17 points, seven clear of bottom-side Osasuna.
Jese scored twice as Las Palmas overcame Osasuna 5-2. The former Real Madrid man opened the scoring on seven minutes before Kenan briefly put Osasuna ahead with goals in the 31st and 37th minutes.
A 55th minute goal from Marko Livaja leveled the score before Unai Garcia put the ball in his own net on 70 minutes ahead of Roque Mesa adding a fourth on 76 minute, while Jese netted his second of the night in the 87th minute.
The result saw Las Palmas move onto 32 points in 12th as Osasuna remained rooted to the foot of the table on 10 points.
And in the day's late game, Athletic Club edged Malaga 1-0 with Raul García netting a 72nd minute penalty.
