Diego Simeone was delighted with the way his Atletico Madrid side responded to their midweek disappointment with a 3-0 win over Valencia on Sunday.
Goals from Antoine Griezmann either side of a strike from Kevin Gameiro sealed the win – after being held to a 1-1 draw with Deportivo La Coruna on Thursday – having lost 2-1 to Barcelona last week.
The result saw Atletico return to fourth place in La Liga, six points behind Sevilla, 10 behind Real Madrid and 11 adrift of leaders Barca.
After the match, which was Simeone's 200th in charge of Atletico in the league, he told the club's official website: "The response was fantastic. We played on Thursday night, and the team responded very well physically and mentally.
"They understood quickly the game we wanted to play, went ahead early and could have been further ahead by half-time. We finished it off well after the break. It was a very complete performance."
Griezmann, meanwhile, added: "We wanted to win the three points and win in front of our fans and to play a good match and today we did it."
