Stindl gives young mascot his kit after leaving him hanging

VfL Borussia Monchengladbach’s Lars Stindl certainly didn’t mean to leave this young boy looking for a handshake hanging on Wednesday, but he did.

The inadvertent snub made waves around the internet, and it’s easy to see why. Here’s the exchange:

The poor kid. Not only does he have to sit there looking like a bobblehead with a camera on his hat, but he can’t even get dapped up by any of the grown-ups. It wasn’t for lack of trying, either. He stuck his tiny paw out there several times to no avail. Eventually, he resigned himself to being ignored.

The good news is that there’s a happy ending for the young lad. Gladbach and Stindl pulled some strings to give the kid his very own kit from the 28-year-old midfielder.

Surely there will be a exchange of handshakes along with the gifting of the kit. All’s well that ends well, at least.

Things went much better for Stindl on the pitch, where he scored a penalty in his side’s 2-1 victory over Hamburger SV in the DFB-Pokal quarter-finals. It was his eighth goal in as many games.

“I’m just very happy that we’ve progressed one round further,” he told the DFB’s official website.

“It was a tough match, especially to begin with. We knew that HSV would come out with an aggressive mentality after their heavy defeat in Munich.

“It’s already fantastic that we’re one of the last-four teams remaining in the DFB Cup. Many of us have never been to the semi-final, and personally this is the most success in the cup that I’ve had throughout my career.”
