Middlesbrough have announced that midfielder Adam Clayton has signed a new four-year contract with the English Premier League club.
The former Manchester City trainee has been an integral part of Aitor Karanka's side since making a £1.5 million switch from Huddersfield Town which involved Jacob Butterfield moving in the opposite direction.
With 22 appearances for Boro in the English top-flight since their promotion from the Championship, the 28-year-old has been rewarded for his consistent displays in midfield.
"I've put pen to paper, finally," he told the club's website. "It's been going on in the background for a few weeks so to get it over the line and guarantee myself coming here for the next couple of years is really good."
Clayton's new contract will now expire at the end of the 2020/21 season.
