Powerful Jeju sink Gamba in Suita

Jeju United eased past Gamba Osaka 4-1 in their Group H clash in Wednesday’s AFC Champions League action.

The South Korean outfit were near flawless at the Suita City Football Stadium, making amends for the loss on Match Day 1 with a strong performance.

It was a slow start to proceedings, with tentative attacks from both teams. But after some pressure, Gamba’s bad day at the office started with an own-goal in the 44th minute via Yasuhito Endo.

Just two minutes later, Jeju striker Lee Chang-min guided the ball home as the visitors went into half-time with a 2-0 lead.

The woes continued for Gamba shortly after the break, as Brazilian import Marcelo Toscano found the back of the net, silencing a bewildered Osaka crowd.

Lee would complete his brace in the 71st minute, scoring the goal of the night with a superb long-range lob over Gamba stopper Masaaki Higashiguchi.

The hosts would save some face when they earned a penalty in the dying embers of the game, which Ademilson stepped up to slot without issue to make it 4-1.

The win throws Group H into disarray, as there are now three teams locked on three points. Jiangsu FC take on Adelaide United later on Wednesday in a match that could decide the leader of the group.
