Tuesday’s La Liga round-up: Sociedad held by Eibar

Real Sociedad's Champions League hopes took a knock after they were held to a 2-2 draw by Eibar at the Anoeta on Tuesday.

The hosts got off to a promising start when they went in front through Juanmi in the 14th minute, but they were pegged back 12 minutes later by Gonzalo Escalante's equaliser.

La Real were handed a boost when Florian Lejeune was sent off a minute into the second half, but goalscorer Juanmi followed suit 13 minutes later as both teams were reduced to 10 men.

A 67th-minute penalty from Carlos Vela appeared to secure all three points for the Basque outfit, only for Pedro Leon to level the scoreline deep into stoppage time.

Sociedad are kept out the top four on goal difference, with Los Armeros a further six points behind in seventh place.

Elsewhere, Real Betis leapfrogged Malaga in the La Liga standings after coming from a goal down to win 2-1 at La Rosaleda.

Pablo Fornals' 39th-minute opener ensured the hosts went into the break 1-0 up, but Betis responded quickly after the restart to restore parity through Jonas Martin (48') and Antonio Sanabria  completed the comeback on 74 minutes.

The Andalusians moved up to 14th in the table, one point ahead of Boquerones in 15th spot.

Meanwhile, Eliaquim Mangala scored the only goal of the game as Valencia recorded a narrow 1-0 victory over 10-man Leganes at the Mestalla.

The on-loan Manchester City defender struck in the 29th minute and the hosts' task was made easier with the dismissal of Alberto for the Pepineros 10 minutes from time.

Los Che climbed up to 12th position, a comfortable 12 points clear of the relegation zone, while the team from Madrid lie 16th, four points clear of the bottom-three.

Tuesday's results:

Real Sociedad 2-2 Eibar
