Gaizka Garitano has been relieved of his coaching duties at Deportivo La Coruna after a disappointing start to the new year.
Saturday's heavy 4-0 reverse at Leganes was the final straw for the club's board. A fourth straight defeat in La Liga was too much and they decided to take action.
Garitano was appointed to the helm at the Riazor during the off-season, but only managed to record four wins in 23 league outings. He last tasted success in the final game of 2016 when Depor beat rock-bottom Osasuna 2-0.
The 41-year-old departs with the Galicians sitting just two points above the relegation zone in 17th place.
"The administration council of RC Deportivo has taken the decision to terminate the contract of Gaizka Garitano as coach of the first team," read a statement from Deportivo.
"The club wishes to thank the Basque coach and his staff for their dedication, effort and professionalism during their time guiding the team.
"Deportivo B coach Cristobal Parralo will manage Monday's training session."
