Sunday’s Eredivisie round-up

What to make of Inter Milan and AC Milan after thrilling Milan derby?

Feyenoord took a massive stride towards their first Eredivisie title since 1999 with a 2-1 victory over defending champions PSV at De Kuip on Sunday.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst talked up the fixture in midweek as season defining and his side had Jan-Arie van der Heijden to thank for a late winner.

Jens Toornstra opened the scoring in the ninth minute and the league leaders held the slender lead until the hour mark before Gaston Pereiro equalised with his ninth goal of the campaign.

Nonetheless, De Stadionclub rallied and won the game in the 82nd minute when Van der Heijden's goal crossed the line by mere centimeters to establish an 11-point lead over Phillip Cocu's men in third place.

Second-placed Ajax kept their title challenge alive with an emphatic 4-1 win over 10th-placed Heracles at the Amsterdam ArenA.

Kasper Dolberg opened the scoring in the 23rd minute but the hosts were soon pegged back Heracles when Samuel Armenteros found the net two minutes later.

De Godenzonen went onto score three unanswered goals in the second half through Matthijs de Ligt, Davinson Sanchez and Bertrand Traore to reduce Feyenoord's lead at the summit to five points.

Vitesse recorded their third win in five games with a comfortable 3-1 victory over relegation favorites Go Ahead Eagles at De Adelaarshorst.

Vitas moved up to seventh after goals from Ricky van Wolfswinkel in the 29th minute, Navarone Foor in the 52nd minute and Milot Rashica with a third, 10 minutes from time.

On-loan Arsenal playmaker Dan Crowley did manage to pull one back in the 88th minute for the hosts, who now languish in 16th place, a single point from safety.

AZ Alkmaar maintained fifth position in the table with a 1-1 draw against PEC Zwolle, coming from a goal down at the AFAS Stadion.

Ryan Thomas opened the scoring fro Ron Jan's side, two minutes after the break, but Fred Friday found a timely equaliser for the Cheeseheads in the 81st minute.

The point earned by the Blauwvingers sees them retain 13th place – five points above the relegation play-off spots.
