Gnabry brace wins it for Bremen

Struggling SV Werder Bremen held on to record a 2-1 victory over underperforming VfL Wolfsburg on Friday night, an early brace from Serge Gnabry proving enough for victory at the Volkswagen Arena.

Gnabry got his first goal in the 10th minute after his strike was deflected into his own net by defender Ricardo Rodriguez. Eight minutes later the 21-year-old bagged his brace, converting from a free kick situation following good work from Ludovic Lamine Sane.

Wolfsburg hit back immediately when Borja Mayoral converted from close range in the 19th minute, after Daniel Didavi had flicked on a corner that came flying into the box. The Wolves would then strike the post twice before the break through Didavi and Mayoral.

The River Islanders showed great resolve and were able to hang on to three points. Its a victory which will undoubtedly help the club in their battle to avoid relegation come the end of the season.
