Head-to-head summary:

TEAM MATCHES WIN DRAW LOSS
Freiburg 33 3 8 22
Dortmund 33 22 8 3

Previous encounter:

Dortmund 3-1 Freiburg 23/09/16 (Bundesliga)

Dortmund goalscorers: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (45′), Lukasz Piszczek (53′), Raphael Guerreiro (90’+1)
Freiburg goalscorers: Maximilian Philipp (60′)

Players to watch:

The hosts have been boosted recently by the form of Vincenzo Grifo and Maximilian Philipp, both of whom scored in their last outing, while Nils Petersen assisted both strikes to add to his seven goals this season.

Dortmund will be hoping star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang finds some form as he is struggling with a dry patch in terms of goal scoring. However, Lukasz Piszczek was in superb form against Wolfsburg last weekend. The full-back set up two goals and scored one to help secure the win.

Team form and manager quotes:

Freiburg’s form has been up and down in recent weeks as they have won two, lost two and drawn one of their last five games. They do, however, come into the game unbeaten in their last two games, after beating Koln and drawing with Hamburg.

“If everything falls in place for us, we can challenge Dortmund,” Freiburg boss Christian Streich told the press. “We want to bring out style to the game.”

Dortmund will aim to build on their 3-0 win over Wolfsburg last weekend as they recover from a poor spell which saw them lost at Darmstadt in the Bundesliga before a 1-0 defeat to Benfica in the Champions League.

“It is a clever team with a lot of quality that makes it difficult for the opponent to score goals in Freiburg,” Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel told the press.

“Nevertheless, we are the favorite,” he added, “we had to regenerate the whole week and prepare ourselves to force the result if necessary and not just to win.”

Team news:

Freiburg are set to be without forward Janik Haberer, but it is likely that Florian Niederlechner will start, while Mike Frantz is available again after overcoming an illness.

Dortmund head into the clash without being able to call upon Mario Gotze, Sebastian Rode, and Sven Bender, who are all still recovering from injuries.
