Wednesday’s Europa League round-up

Schalke and Krasnodar progressed to the Europa League round of 16 with draws in the second leg of their round-of-32 encounters on Wednesday.

Schalke marched on in the competition after a 1-1 draw against PAOK Salonika at the VELTINS-Arena saw them win the tie 4-1 on aggregate.

The hosts took the lead through Alessandro Schopf on 23 minutes, but it was cancelled out almost immediately as Matija Nastasic inadvertently put the ball past his own keeper two minutes later.

Meanwhile, Krasnodar also drew 1-1 with Fenerbahce in their round-of-32 decider at the Saracoglu Spor Kompleksi to advance 2-1 on aggregate.

The visitors got off to a flying start in Istanbul when Fedor Smolov gave them the lead after just seven minutes, but Fener were level four minutes before the break through Souza to renew their hopes of reaching the next round.

However,  Markus Weinzierl's side had done enough in the first leg with a crucial away goal to seal their progress in Europe.

Wednesday's results:

Schalke 1-1 PAOK Salonika

Fenerbahce 1-1 Krasnodar
