V.League 1 side Ha Noi came from a goal down to secure a 1-1 draw against Philippines side Ceres-Negros, in their Group G opener of the Asian Football Confederation Cup fixture at the My Dinh National Stadium on Tuesday.
- Ha Noi 1 Ceres 1
- Goalless at the break
- Maranon opens scoring
- Van Quyet levels matters
After a goalless first half the game sprung into life in Hanoi, as striker Bienvenido Maranon have the away side the lead.
However, star playmaker Nguyen Van Quyet managed to restore parity for the hosts as the two sides settled for a point in their opening group encounter.
Both sides started the fixture off with real attacking intent, Ha Noi head coach Dinh Nghiem Chu started with his favoured 4-1-4-1 formation and got a bit of joy in the early stages as his troops looked to press the visitors high up the pitch.
Ceres boss Risto Vidakovic, started with a conventional 4-4-2 system that struggled to get to grips with the pace of the game in the early stages.
However, the Busmen looked seemingly content to sit back and soak up the pressure from the Vietnamese top-flight side and break on the counter at any opportunity afforded to them.
After holding them until the half-time whistle, they went on to open the scoring in the 49th minute through Spanish winger Bienvenido Marañón Morejón.
The former Cadiz man did well to compose himself tapping in a rebound after a header by defender Manuel Herrera was blocked by Hanoi goalkeeper Phi Minh Long.
Nonetheless, the home support rallied behind their side and it paid off when they equalised eight minutes later through their inspirational playmaker Nguyen Van Quyet.
The prolific 25-year-old treated the national Stadium with one of the goals of the season, as his acrobatic scissors kick left Ceres goalkeeper Roland Müller rooted to the spot.
