Shock as Millwall stun champions Leicester

Leicester City's dismal form continued when they were dumped out of the FA Cup by Millwall, courtesy of Shaun Cummings' late winner at the Deen on Saturday evening.

  • Millwall 1 Leicester City 0
  • Musa skews effort off-target
  • Cooper given marching orders
  • Cummings scores late winner

Match Summary

The first half was plagued by a lack of any real clear-cut opportunities, in addition to some wasteful finishing by Ahmed Musa and alert goalkeeping from Jordan Archer to keep the Foxes at bay.

Claudio Ranieri's side were unable to convert their flurry of chances in the second half and failed to make their numerical advantage count, as Cummings' 90th-minute strike condemned them to a fifth-round exit.

Full Report

Leicester dominated the early proceedings and wasted little time in attempting to break the deadlock, with Demarai Gray sending an effort wide of target in the first minute after a good cut-back by Musa.

Benjamin Chilwell caused the home defence all sorts of problems with his surging runs on the left-wing, but often lacked the final delivery into the area.

The Lions rarely threatened but looked promising when Fred Onyedinma was in possession. The youngster's pace bothered the central defensive pairing of Yohan Benalouane and Molla Wague.

Shinji Okazaki came agonisingly close to having opened the scoring in the 16th minute when he did well to run onto Bartosz Kapustka's through-ball, but his shot was stopped by the onrushing Archer.

Musa proved wasteful with a couple of efforts in quick succession, after unselfishly being teed up by Okazaki.

Chilwell proved his defensive worth in the 28th minute when he executed a well-timed tackle and put his body on the line to block Calum Butcher's strike.  Butcher was then unfortunate to see his header go straight in the hands of Ron Zieler after some lax defending by the visitors.

The second half began in similar vein to the first, with the visitors throwing numbers forward in search of the opener.

Millwall were reduced to 10 men in the 52nd minute after Jake Cooper was shown a second yellow card for a late lunge on Musa.

The Foxes looked to utilise the numerical advantage, but Millwall's defence stood firm. Okazaki should've given his side the lead in the 80th minute when he was gifted a one-on-one opportunity, but his tame shot in the area was stopped by Archer.

Cummings pounced against the run of play in the 90th minute when he profited from Shaun Williams' delicate through-ball to slot past Zieler for victory.
