Vincenzo Montella left the Stadio Olimpico on Monday night proud of his charges as they secured a late 1-1 draw with Lazio.
Suso netted in the 85th minute of the tie for Milan after Lucas Bigluia's opener from the penalty spot on the stroke of half time.
The club have struggled for results in recent weeks, and ended the evening in seventh place on 41 points, with Lazio in sixth with 44 points.
They lost their last two Serie A games ahead of a draining 1-0 away win over Bologna on Wednesday.
After Monday's game, Montella told the club's official website: "We take home a precious point which makes me even more proud of the boys, not only for the result but especially for the performance.
"We were not in the best physical and psychological condition after Bologna, I was surprised with the desire the boys showed tonight against a really strong team".
He added: "The team never wants to lose and this mentality goes beyond players’ technique or tactics. I don’t know where they take this strength from, but I wouldn’t have the same mental strength.
"I’ve granted the boys a day off tomorrow because they deserve it".
