Manchester United made light-work of Watford to record a 2-0 victory at Old Trafford and temporarily move into fifth place in the Premier League on Saturday.
- Man Utd 2 Watford 0
- Mata puts United ahead
- Red Devils dominate until HT
- Martial doubles the lead
- Mourinho's men move into fifth
Manchester United took a one-goal lead into the break after a swift attack ended in Juan Mata opening the scoring.
Anthony Martial impressed throughout and doubled the advantage on the hour mark as United held on to extend their unbeaten run to 16 games.
Jose Mourinho would have been delighted with his side's display but irked that they only took a one goal lead into the break.
Mata's opener in the 32nd minute proved to be a real team goal for a side brimming with confidence.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan did well to play Mata in before his flick found Anthony Martial, who was reinstated into the starting XI.
The France international then sent a fizzing ball across the face of goal, before the diminutive Spaniard swept the ball beyond the Watford goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes.
In the second half Mourinho's side looked in total control and it was a matter of when, not if, they would add to their lead.
And it came on the hour mark with yet another scintillating attack. Martial who looked renewed after a few under-par displays last month made no mistake after being sent through by Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The former Lyon man did well to send Gomes the wrong way and slip it into the near post, settling the game with twenty minutes left to play.
The win sees United move above Liverpool temporarily into fifth who are in action against Tottenham later on Saturday – while the Hornets move down to 12th.
