Srna: Real Madrid would struggle without Modric

Former Croatia captain Darijo Srna has hailed Real Madrid star and compatriot Luka Modric as the finest midfielder in the world.

The 31-year-old joined Los Blancos in 2012 and has since collected two Champions League titles, two Club World Cups and the Copa del Rey.

Modric was recently awarded a new contract which will keep the industrious midfielder at Real Madrid until 2020, and Srna beleives he has reached the peak of his powers.

"Modric is beyond just a friend, he's the best midfielder in the world right now," Srna told Marca. "I have no doubts; I'm not saying that he is one of the best, I affirm that he is the best.

"Luka has grown over the years, I think he is now at his peak. Since he arrived he has been improving with the team. Real Madrid are having a great run of results, but without Luka they would have problems."
