Krul pleased with first-team comeback

AZ Alkmaar goalkeeper Tim Krul says he is delighted to have returned to first-team football after a frustrating year on the sidelines.

Krul missed the whole of 2016 after a serious cruciate ligament injury and joined AZ on loan from Newcastle last month in a bid to regain his match fitness.

The towering shot stopper made his debut for the club in the 4-2 defeat to reigning Eredivisie champions PSV Eindoven and is looking forward to improving with the Cheeseheads over the coming weeks.

"I have mixed feelings to be honest. I am pleased to be back playing pain free after one year," he said after the game. "But I am disappointed that we did not get a result tonight."

"I believe that we gave three goals away tonight and we know that PSV are not shy in taking their chances. We were not sharp enough.

"I had hoped to be decisive for AZ tonight but I am confident I will be in the coming weeks and it will take a few games to find my rhythm again."
