Marek Hamsik says it is an honour to be considered in the same vein as legendary Napoli striker Diego Maradona after netting a hat-trick in the 7-1 hammering of Bologna on Saturday.
Hamsik took his goal tally to 109 for the Serie A title chasers, who trail leaders Juventus by three points, although having played two games more.
Although he had already surpassed the number of goals the Argentine striker notched up for the club, he could never really expect to be seen in the same light at the man who won two league titles, a Coppa Italia, the UEFA Cup and a Supercoppa Italiana with Napoli.
Hamsik netted his goals in the fourth, 70th and 74th minutes with Lorenzo Insigne on target after six minutes, while Dries Mertens also bagged three, after 33, 43 and 90 minutes.
After the game, a delighted Hamsik told the club's official website: "We are a tenacious team, we are growing and we won't give up.
"I'm happy and this is my personal trophy and it's an honour to be just behind Maradona".
He added: "Tonight we performed a great match, we are always more aware of our skills and we played a stunning game.
"We will pursue this path and we know that we can still give a lot and we will be focused just one match at a time. We do want to have targets. We will give our all till the end of the season."
