PSV Eindhoven maintained their Eredivisie title challenge with a 4-2 victory over AZ Alkmaar in Saturday's league clash at the AFAS Stadion.
Jetro Willems grabbed a brace inside the opening 20 minutes before Fred Friday pulled a goal back for the home team in the 17th minute. Gaston Pereiro and Siem de Jong added a third and fourth goal for the visitors before Friday added a late consolation in the second half.
Meanwhile, Go Ahead Eagles produced the shock of the night when the struggling club defeated NEC 2-1. Elvis Manu scored first for the visitors in the 12th minute before Jarchinio Antonia made it 2-0 in the 25th minute. Jay-Roy Grot grabbed a late consolation for NEC.
In addition, mid-table battlers Heracles scored three goals in six minutes as they overcame Willem II 3-1 at the Koning Willem II Stadion. Fran Sol gave the home team the lead in the 24th minute before goals from Peter van Ooijen, Kristoffer Peterson and Robin Gosens in the second half buried the hosts.
In Saturday's later game, Groningen drew with Excelsior 1-1 at the Noordlease Stadion. Mimoun Mahi handed the home side the lead with a 48th minute strike before Anouar Hadouir levelled matters in the 80th minute
