Burkina Faso needed a late goal by Alain Traore to secure bronze as they saw off Ghana 1-0 in Saturday's Africa Cup of Nations third place play-off in Port-Gentil.
- Burkina Faso 1 Ghana 0
- Agyemang-Badu misses header for Ghana
- Partey hits the woodwork
- Nakoulma fires wide for the Stallions
- Traore scores late free kick
Ghana dominated for much of the contest and Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu may have done better when he headed Andy Yiadom's cross just wide. The Black Stars then hit the woodwork through Thomas Partey in the 25th minute.
However, Alain Traore scored a brilliant free-kick in the last minute of the game as Paulo Duarte's men finished third at AFCON 2017.
Ghana were desperate to leave Gabon with some pride and threatened as early as the third minute. Andy Yiadom showed good skill down the left wing before he sent in a well flighted cross into the box that was met by the late arriving Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu, who headed just wide across the goal.
The Black Stars were well on top in the opening stages and should have taken the lead in the 25th minute when Jordan Ayew's corner found Thomas Partey in the box. However, he fluffed his effort from just six yards out as it cannoned to safety off the woodwork.
Yet, the Stallions had a golden opportunity four minutes before the break. Against the run of play, Alain Traore found Prejuce Nakoulma who tricked his way into the box only to fire his shot just wide of the target.
However, Burkina Faso snatched third place in the last minute of the game as Traore fired home an emphatic free-kick that sailed into the top left corner to seal victory for his team.
