Barcelona boss Luis Enrique handed Paco Alcacer a rare start ahead of Luis Suarez against Ernesto Valverde's men and the €30 million striker repaid his faith with his first league goal for the club.

The 23-year-old opened the scoring after some excellent work on the left-flank from Neymar. The Brazil international did well to beat his marker before fizzing in a low cross to the former Valencia man, and he did well to steer the delivery into the near post past Gorka Iraizoz.

Los Leones' skipper was called into question for the second goal five minutes before the break, when he allowed a routine Lionel Messi free-kick slip through his grasp with no real pressure on him.

Conceding just before half-time took the wind out of the visitors who were guilty of a couple of glaring misses with Inaki Williams and midfielder Iturraspe in particular wasting chances to draw level.

Nonetheless, Enrique's side barely had to kick into another gear in the second-half and even afforded Messi a rest when he came off for Sergi Roberto on the hour mark.

And, shortly after the change, right-back Vidal grabbed his second of the season after a surging run from his own half into the 18-yard area of the Rojiblancos, before scuffing his effort into the far corner of the net.

In the earlier fixture of the day Malaga fell to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Quique Sánchez Flores' Espanyol side.

Marcelo Romero's men dropped down to 14th place after veteran winger Jose Antonio Reyes set up Pablo Piatti's 17th minute strike, to condemn Boquerones to their ninth defeat of the season.

After a promising start, Malaga are now eight league games without registering a victory while Periquitos moved up to eighth in the La Liga standings.
