Roda JC have named Nicolas Anelka as a consultant as they bid to improve on recent results and move away from the bottom of the Eredivisie league standings.
The Miners are currently 17th in the 18-team division, with 16 points from their opening 20 games.
They ended the 2015/16 Dutch season in 14th place after being promoted from the Eerste Divisie a season earlier.
Now the club is hopeful the addition of the former Real Madrid, PSG and Chelsea striker can help them avoid relegation this term.
He is set to play an advisory role with the club's football academy and advise on player signings.
And his impact has reportedly already been felt, with the club having signed 21-year-old winger Lyes Houri on loan from Bastia as a result of a recommendation from the Frenchman.
He joins the club following an announcement last week that Russian-Swiss investor Aleksei Korotaev bought a minority share in the club.
A club statement read: "(Anelka) will arrive this week and start beefing up the club at once."
Roda technical director Ton Caanen added: "When I met Nicolas in Dubai and had conversations with him about football, I immediately had the idea that I was not just dealing with a former football player, but also someone who has a very interesting idea about football in general.
"We are proud that we can add someone of his calibre to our organisation. We will now discuss with Aleksei Korotaev how we are going to give precise details on his role."
