A late Francesco Totti penalty secured Roma an unimpressive 2-1 win over Cesena to move them into the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia on Tuesday.
Cesena may have been playing away from home against a side a full division above them in the Italian football structure, but they showed no signs of weakness as they went toe-to-toe with Roma.
The Giallorossi enjoyed nearly 70 percent of the possession throughout the match, but the Sea Horses were deadly on the counter attack and both sides ended the match with 14 shots on goal.
Roma were perhaps guilty of complacency early on as the visitors easily held them at bay in the first half.
They were much better after the break and Edin Dzeko gave them the lead around the 70 minute mark.
However, they were made to pay dearly for taking their foot off the gas when Luca Garritano restored parity in the 73rd minute.
Unfortunately, the fairytale came to and end five minutes into second half injury time when Roma were awarded a penalty and the 40-year-old Totti converted to secure his side a berth in the final four.
