Tampines Rovers have confirmed that German coach Juergen Raab will be their new head coach for the 2017 S.League season.
Former Garena Young Lions coach Raab will sign a three-year contract on Wednesday. The announcement comes less than a week after the shock departure of Tampines coach Akbar Nawas.
Tampines Chairman Krishna Ramachandra said, due to the fact, that the new coach has worked in the S.League before will make for an easy transition.
“He knows the league very well, he knows the youth development system here, and he knows who the talented youngsters are,” Ramachandra told the New Paper.
“Above that, he’s just a very good coach, someone’s who’s almost unanimously regarded as one of the best coaches that the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) have had,” he added.

Raab started his association with football in Singapore as a fitness coach with the FAS, before taking over at the Young Lions when Aide Iskander resigned in 2015 following a disappointing performance at the SEA Games.
Ramachandra said the three-year contract was part of a long-term plan.
“(The three-year contract) is to give more comfort, and more continuity to the system, and it’s not as if he’s not a proven coach,” he said.
