Middlesbrough and West Bromwich Albion played out to a hard fought 1-1 draw in Tuesday's English Premier League clash at the Riverside Stadium.
- Middlesbrough 1 West Bromwich Albion 1
- Morrison opens the scoring early
- Negredo equalises soon after from the spot
- West Brom strikes the post twice
- Valdes saves from Brunt
West Brom enjoyed the better of the chances and James Morrison put the visitors ahead in the sixth minute. Alvaro Negredo then found the equaliser with a penalty after he was brought down by Gareth McAuley.
After the break, West Brom hit the post with Matt Phillips and Salomon Rondon both unlucky. Both keepers were busy in the second half with Ben Foster saving from teammate Darren Fletcher's deflection. While Victor Valdes had to be sharp to deny Chris Brunt later on.
On a greasy surface at the Riverside Stadium, it would be West Brom who whould grab an early lead when Morrison grabbed the first goal after Chris Brunt's cross was not cleared, and Darren Fletcher laid it on to his teammate who drilled home from the edge of the box.
Yet, Middlesbrough soon responded when a clumsy tackle by Gareth McAuley on Alvaro Negredo saw a penalty awarded in the 17th minute. The big number nine then dusted himself off to slot home the kick with confidence.
Brunt was proving to be a threat and his deliveries into Boro's box were causing problems for the home side's back four. However, it would be Aitor Karanka's men who had a chance to take the lead when Adama Traore's dangerous cross hit Allan Nyom which forced Ben Foster into a superb save in the 36th minute.
After the break, West Brom were unlucky not to hit the front when Matt Phillips saw his header hit the post before Salomon Rondon hit the other post on the rebound in the 51st minute. Three minutes later Foster had to be sharp to tip over from Fletcher who nearly put the ball into his own net.
The industrious Brunt then later sent in a stinging shot in the 76th minute which Victor Valdes tipped over the bar away from danger. Moments later Phillips saw his effort flash by the post. There were no further scares as it ended 1-1 in the North East.
