Two second half goals were enough for Al Wehdat to defeat Bengaluru FC 2-1 in their AFC Champions league playoff clash on Tuesday in Amman.
The win takes the Jordanian outfit one step closer to a place in the main draw of the 2017 AFC Champions League, while Bengaluru crash out and will take up a place in Group E of the AFC Cup.
Ahmed Wridat opened the scoring at the King Abdullah II International Stadium in the 48th minute, sending the home crowd into raptures following his volley from just inside the box that crashed into the back of the net.
Bengaluru’s Sena Ralte was the villain of the night, giving away a penalty in the 65th minute which Baha Faisal stepped up to convert without issue.
The Indian club pushed forward in the latter stages and were rewarded with a 68th minute goal via the boot of captain Sunil Chhetri, after which Al Wehdat ground out a win.
Al Wehdat face Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi on February 7 for a place in Group D of the AFC Champions League.
