Oriol Romeu says he's a better player for having joined Southampton and had no hesitation in signing a new deal at the ambitious south coast club.
The defensive midfielder joined the Saints from Chelsea for £5million in August 2015 and has gone onto become an integral part of the team, playing in 30 games under Claude Puel already this term.
At just 25-year-old, he should be giving his best year's of service to the Saints, having signed a new four-and-a-half-year deal.
Speaking to the club's official website, he said: "I've felt good improvement in my game and I don't want to stop. I think we all can get better, we all can improve so many things, so this is my target right now.
"I'm feeling very good playing, and taking every opportunity that the coach gives me, to prove that I want to be there every game and to help the team as much as I can.
"I think that's helping the team, that's helping myself, and I want to keep developing that football that I'm doing right now."
A former Espanyol and Barcelona man, who also spent time on loan at Valencia and Stuttgart during his time with Chelsea, Romeu was twice voted the club’s Under Armour Player of the Month, for September and October.
He added: "I couldn’t be any happier to have this new contract with the club.
"Ever since I came here I have felt very, very good. Everything has been positive for me. I have developed myself and been getting better every day."
Executive Director of Football Les Reed was naturally very happy to have tied down such a key player.
He said: "We’re delighted that Oriol has extended his commitment to Southampton Football Club.
"We’re confident he will continue to build on what has been an impressive 18 months since he joined us from Chelsea.
"At the age of 25, Oriol still has the capacity to develop and progress as an individual, and we’re very pleased that he sees Southampton as the perfect environment for him to do just that."
