Algeria coach Georges Leekens has stepped down from his position in charge of the national team following their elimination from the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Fennecs, who entered the biennial competition as one of the favourites, had their time in Gabon cut short following their 2-2 draw with Senegal in their final group game on Monday.
This result followed an opening day 2-2 draw with Zimbabwe, who were also sent packing, before losing 2-1 to Tunisia.
A brief statement from the former Belgium, Club Brugge, Tunisia and Lokeren coach revealed he felt it was in the country's best interest to step away from the post.
He wrote in a statement on the Algerian Football Federation website: "For the good of all I decided to quit even though I do it with heartache, and I wish all the success in the world to the national side."
