Injured Schalke forward Breel Embolo says he is itching to be back in action after witnessing his side’s 1-0 victory against Ingolstadt over the weekend.
The 19-year-old was present at the VELTINS-Arena on Saturday when debutant Guido Burgstaller netted a 92nd minute winner to hand Markus Weinzierl’s side their sixth victory of the campaign.
Despite being gutted about having missed a large part of The Royal Blues’ first half of their campaign due an ankle injury, Embolo highlighted his eagarness to be back in action.
“Injuries unfortunately do happen in football and always at inopportune times,” he told the club’s official website.
“Yet still, I am glad to be back here and want to be out on the pitch again as soon as possible to help the team.
“Not being on the pitch, I am currently supporting the team in a different way. I have my fingers crossed for them every game and am in regular contact with everyone.
“Markus Weinzierl also rings me often to see how things are going.”
Embolo is convinced the club will be able to rise back up the Bundesliga table, despite their struggles so far this season.
“I could see from my first training session that Schalke is a very special club, he added. “From the very first day I felt comfortable being a part of the squad and with the fans.
“It is wonderful to play for such a team. We have an exciting and very young squad with a lot of potential.
“I am convinced that we will rise back up the Bundesliga in the second half of the season.”
