New Heerenveen signing Martin Odegaard says he is excited to play in the Eredivisie after the teenage playmaker completed a 18-month loan deal from Real Madrid.
Odegaard is considered as one of the brightest midfield prospects in the European game and has earned the move to the Dutch top-flight after becoming vocal of his lack of first-team football at Los Blancos
The 18-year-old feels the opportunity to play first-team senior football will be imperative for his development after his progression from a 15-year-old Norway international somewhat stalled over the last 12 months in Real Madrid's reserve side.
"Heerenveen is a great club I had good talks with the manager and representatives of the club and that is why I am here," he told reporters. "I am looking forward to starting for Heerenveen and this is a great chance for me.
"It was very special as a 16 or 17 year old boy to train with the best players in the world I learnt a lot at Real Madrid and now I want to grow as a player.
"I am fit to play and I hope to start for Heerenveen as soon as possible."
