FC Bayern Munchen have completed their preparations for the second half of the Bundesliga season when they demolished KAS Eupen 5-0 in Tuesday’s friendly in Doha.
The Bavarians have been hard at work in Qatar as they look to build on their domination in the domestic league and cup competitions, as well as mount a serious challenge for the UEFA Champions League crown.
Bayern sent out a star-studded line-up featuring the likes of captain Philipp Lahm, playmaker Xabi Alonso and forwards Thomas Muller and Robert Lewandowski. Mats Hummels got the scoring underway in the 45th minute following a corner.
Fabian Benko got the second three minutes later from a Douglas Costa assist. Arturo Vidal got the third in the 66th minute following good work from Alonso. Costa then added a fourth in the 71st minute before Benko completed his brace 10 minutes later.
Meanwhile, manager Carlo Ancelotti was pleased with the preparations. He told the club’s official website: “The week has been very good. We’ve trained with real intensity. Our confidence is high. The weather has helped us a lot. You can’t train with this sort of workload when it’s freezing.”
Bayern’s first official game of 2017 is an away match against Freiburg on 20 January. The Brazilians of Breisgau are in some decent form having lost just once in their last five league matches played prior to the mid-season break.
