Coutinho returns to Liverpool training

Philippe Coutinho has returned to full training with Liverpool, although this weekend’s FA Cup third round will come too soon for the Brazilian’s comeback.

Coutinho has missed Liverpool’s last eight games after suffering an ankle injury in November’s 2-0 win over Sunderland.

But the 24-year-old joined in training with the rest of his team-mates for the first time on Friday, along with striker Daniel Sturridge, who has been sidelined this week after being forced off at Sunderland last weekend.

Coutinho won’t be involved against Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup, although he could be in contention for the clash against Manchester United next weekend.

“[Coutinho] is in a very good way, but not for the weekend,” said Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

Centre-half Joel Matip is also on the verge of returning to full training after recovering from ankle ligament damage.

However, James Milner will miss the Plymouth game after coming off injured at half-time in the 2-2 draw against Sunderland.
