Bundesliga side FSV Mainz 05 have announced the signing of Karlsruher SC left-back Marin Sverko on a four-year contract.
The 18-year-old Croatia U19 international will officially join the club on a free transfer from the Zweitliga side when his contract expires at the end of the current campaign.
Mainz sporting director Rouven Schroder told the club’s official website: “In Marin Sverko, we see a lot of potential for him to have a long career in professional football.
“He has all the requirements, both physically and as a footballer. We are delighted that he has decided to take the next step of his development with Mainz 05.”
The signing of Sverko follows the release of Christian Clemens, who has joined league rivals FC Koln.
The 25-year-old, who joined the club at the beginning of 2015 on loan, before signing a permanent deal, has signed with Koln until 2021 for an undisclosed fee.
Schroder added: “We have a lot of competition for places in the wing positions, which has intensified after being knocked out of the cup competitions as there’ll be fewer games.
“This opportunity arose as his home town club showed an interest. We found a good solution for both teams and the player, we thank Christian for efforts at Mainz and wish him all the best in Cologne.”
