Wolfsburg midfielder Josuha Guilavogui has recalled the shock he experienced when he broke his neck in a friendly game against Sporting Lisbon in July.
The injury ruled the 26-year-old France international out of action for four months although he has admitted he is simply grateful to be able to play football again.
The player suffered the blow while contesting for a ball in the air and as a result he landed badly on his neck. Guilavogui recounted what happened to the Bundesliga’s official website.
He said: “I just fell on my neck after an aerial duel and felt straight away that something had happened. My neck broke in three places. I heard a strange noise and knew it wasn’t normal.
“Just a few centimetres more and I could have been paralysed for life. Several doctors have told me that so, in the end, I’ve been really lucky. I am just so grateful to be able to play football again.”
The Toulon-born native has made six appearances for the Wolves in 2016/17 and will likely have a major role to play in the New Year for the Valerien Ismael-coached side.
