Borussia Monchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl believes that coach Dieter Hecking is the right man to lead the side during their rebuilding phase in the Bundesliga.
Gladbach have endured a torrid season thus far and languish in 14th position having collected 16 points from a possible 48 this season.
Eberl though is adamant that the former Wolfsburg mentor can help turn the team’s fortunes around during the second-half of the season.
“Dieter Hecking has been a coach for 16 years and has had a fantastic career to date,” he told the club’s website.
“He took over at VfL when they were in 15th and took them to a second-place finish and a DFB Cup win in a short time. It is clear to see that he knows how to build a team well and he is an experienced coach who works well with hunger players.
“He has experience in taking over sides in similar positions to where we are now and re-stabilising them, and it helps that he started his career as a player here in Monchengladbach, too,” he added.
“Our primary goal after the winter break is to regain stability in the structure of the team. We have to look to defend strongly as a collective and concede fewer goals.
“We will make our own lives a lot easier if we can stop going behind in games. We also need to fix up our away form and approach.
“We have a difficult task in the Bundesliga to re-stabilise ourselves and get back to where we should be in the table, and that has to be at the forefront of our thinking.”
“I am firmly convinced that we will be able to get things back in order in the league and make progress in both cups,” he concluded.
