Another day, another raft of crazy rumours of top talent being offered gazillions of dollars to go and ply their trade in China when the transfer window opens in the New Year.
Could it be journalists are just making up these stories or is there some substance behind them? Let’s take a look.
The Real Madrid defender is apparently attracting the attention of two clubs, with Manuel Pellegrini’s Hebei China Fortune one of the clubs willing to offer the Portuguese a staggering £8.5 million a season.

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane is said to be keen to keep Pepe at the Bernabeu, but at 33 the double Champions League winner could be interested in a move after more than a decade at the club.
Rumour Rating: 5/10. Pepe’s agent has been in talks with Madrid about a new contract, which expires in June, since the summer, but with Madrid only offering one-year deals to players aged over 32 Pepe could be tempted to leave Spain for the increased financial security.
Arda Turan is another big-name football player to be linked with a China move.

Not content with raiding Real Madrid’s ranks, CSL scouts are also reportedly planning to pilfer Luis Enrique’s players as Barcelona’s Turkish star Ada Turan has been attracting the attention of Luis Felipe Scolari’s Guangzhou Evergrande.
The twice AFC Champions League winners are ready to offer the Barca playmaker 50 million euros over three years to make the move out east, according to Turkish press reports.
Rumour Rating: 7/10. Turan is struggling to hold down a place in the Barca squad this term despite scoring 10 goals and has started only around half of their games. The temptation of a regular starring role coupled with the huge pay packet on offer could be enough to tempt him – if Barca will let him go.
Angel Di Maria
Angel getting ready to land in China?
The Manchester United flop is not enjoying the best of seasons in Paris and his agent Jorge Mendes has established contacts with several Chinese Super League clubs, according to French news reports.
With just one goal in 15 games so far this term, Di Maria is in danger of being dropped by coach Unai Emery as he attempts to overhaul surprise Ligue 1 leaders Nice. His dropping could lead to him asking for a move with Chinese clubs waiting to pick up the pieces.
Rumour Rating: 3/10. Although the Argentine is struggling and is no stranger to big money moves, the lack of details in the reports suggest this is just press speculation about an unsettled player and there is little substance behind it. Angel will most likely not be flapping his wings over to the Far East anytime soon.
