Full Report

The first half was slightly edged by Burnley, with Victor Valdes the most active of both goalkeepers – but the home side could've found themselves behind when they were nearly undone by a simple ball over the top.

Antonio Barragan's drilled forward pass was latched on to by Christian Stuani with the Clarets defence in sixes and sevens but the forward inexplicably failed to get his effort from the edge of the area on target.

With the odd half chance and penalty shout, along with a few tame efforts straight at Valdes, both managers would've been pleased with their sides work-rate.

It wasn't a Premier League classic by any sense, but with the high intensity and the ball zipping all over the pitch, it was a bit of a scrappy affair for two sides looking to add three points in their quest to retain their top-flight status.

The newly promoted sides started the second-half with a bit more vigor and intent for the first ten minutes but yet again failed to capatalise on some loose defending from both ends.

With a niggling fouls becoming more consistent than goal scoring opportunities for the next period of play, the tie looked set for a goalless draw – but nine minutes before time, the livewire Andre gray found the winner for the Clarets.

And it was one of the most as straightforward goals to break the deadlock, as an error of judgement from Valdes cost the Boro a valuable point. Tom Heaton's long punt forward was flicked on by substitute Sam Vokes and Gray was on hand to smash an instinctive shot from 20 yards out.

However, the former Barcelona keeper somehow spilled it and the ball just crept in at his near post.
