Borussia Mönchengladbach have moved swiftly to replace recently-ousted head coach Andre Schubert by bringing in Dieter Hecking.
Schubert was dismissed on Wednesday after a disappointing start to the Bundesliga season for Die Fohlen, who will hope for a better second half of the campaign under the former VfL Wolfsburg boss.
"We want to make a fresh start following the developments of the past few weeks and Dieter Hecking is just the right man for it," sporting director Max Eberl said.
"He is a coach with a lot of experience, who has been very successful with a number clubs at various levels.
"A difficult second half of the season awaits, with exciting challenges in the Bundesliga, DFB Pokal and Europa League. We are looking forward at taking on these challenges with Hecking at the helm."
Gladbach, who are currently 14th in the Bundesliga standings at the winter break, return to action on the 21st in November away to Darmstadt 98.
