Alaves compound Betis’ misery

Real Betis' relegation woes were compounded by a miserable 1-0 defeat at the hands of Alaves at Estadio Mendizorrotza in La Liga on Friday night.

The night did not get off to a great start for the visitors when Ryan Donk had to be subbed off just 12 minutes into the match because of injury.

The home side then squandered two great chances in the first half with Gomez Perez being denied by Antonio Adan before Deyverson flashed a chance narrowly wide of the target.

The Brazilian was not to be denied however, and when he was played in by a brilliant ball from Gaizka Toquero Pinedo in the 58th minute, and got the better of Adan to put Alaves ahead.

Ruben Castro went close to pulling his side level with a wicked free kick that flashed inches wide of the post.

Late on, Alaves had Fernando Pacheco for protecting their lead when Daniel Ceballos broke into the box before unleashing a wicked low shot, but the goalkeeper was equal to it and pulled off a great save to earn his side a 1-0 win.
