Villarreal returned to winning ways in La Liga as they recorded a surprise 3-0 victory over Atletico Madrid at El Madrigal on Monday.
First-half goals from Manu Trigueros and Jonathan dos Santos put the hosts in the driving seat at the break, with Roberto Soriano wrapping up the win at the death.
The Yellow Submarine arrested a three-match winless run in the league to move into the Champions League places in fourth spot, one point above Atleti in sixth.
Fran Escriba's side almost got off to the perfect start when Dos Santos threatened to open the scoring early on with an audacious overhead-kick from outside the box that was cleared off the line by Stefan Savic.

Los Rojiblancos, who were also struggling for form in the top flight of late, lacked a clinical edge in front of goal as they managed just three shots on target from 13 attempts.
The closest they came was in the 18th minute when Angel Correa's effort was turned behind by Sergio Asenjo, with the resulting corner leading to Koke seeing his shot deflected onto the post.
The Castellon club broke the deadlock on 28 minutes as Trigueros latched onto a poor backpass from Tiago and ended up beating Jan Oblak from inside the area.
Dos Santos then extended their lead 10 minutes later following a mistake from Oblak, who spilled a cross from Alexandre Pato which was seized upon by the Mexican at the second attempt after he hit the post initially.
Kevin Gameiro forced Asenjo into a save two minutes into the second half, but Diego Simeone's men didn't trouble the keeper again for the remainder of the game.
Instead it was Villarreal who added to the scoreline when Soriano carried the ball into the box and beat substitute keeper Miguel Angel Moya with a well-placed shot in stoppage time.
