Schubert hails “important” victory

VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach head coach Andre Schubert believes his team deserved their 1-0 Bundesliga victory over 1. FSV Mainz 05, having created more clear-cut opportunities.

Andreas Christensen's second-half strike handed Gladbach all three points, while also halting a worrying run of eight matches in all competitions without victory.

While Schubert was pleased with the result, he felt they should have won by a more convincing margin on the day.

"In past home matches we've created more clear-cut chances and would have deserved to win more, but that's football," Schubert told the club's website.

"We wanted to win at all costs today – it wasn't about playing well.

"It was just about defending with everything we have, ending this negative streak and winning.

"There weren't many chances throughout the whole game but we forced the win and had the right amount of luck on our side. We're happy we were able to win, it was important for us," he concluded.
