VfL Wolfsburg want-away midfielder Julian Draxler says the icy reception he received from fans in the 3-2 loss against Hertha Berlin is disheartening, but understandable.
The Germany international lost his starting berth in Valerien Ismael’s side after expressing his desire to leave the club during the transfer window – a move which Wolfsburg reportedly prevented from happening.
Draxler, who has been subject of reported interest from a number of top clubs around Europe, highlighted the difficult circumstances he had to play under during the loss to Berlin, but will stand by his decision to leave the club.
“I don’t think I need to tell anybody what that does to a person,” he told German magazine kicker.
“There’s no doubt it makes it hard for you to perform on the field.
“I can understand the fans, though. They have every right to do that. I said in the summer the way I feel and I stand by that.
“I have to accept that the coach doesn’t need to explain it to me.
“From a purely sporting point of view, it’s understandable too, but there’s not much more to say about it,” he concluded.
