Sunday’s Eredivisie round-up

Feyenoord remain just ahead of Ajax at the Eredivisie summit after they hammered Sparta Rotterdam 6-1 at De Kuip on Sunday.

First-half goals from Tonny Vilhena (24') and Jens Toornstra (43') put the hosts in the driving seat before a Nicolai Jorgensen brace (59', 64') and further efforts from Eric Botteghin (73') and Eljero Elia (90') completed the rout.

Thomas Verhaar (86') grabbed a late consolation for the 10th-placed Kasteelheren, who have gone three games without a win, while De Stadionclub top the standings on goal difference.

Meanwhile, Ajax kept the pressure on their title rivals with a 2-0 victory over Groningen at the Amsterdam ArenA.

The hosts were leading as early as the ninth minute when Davinson Sanchez broke the deadlock and a penalty Hakim Ziyech (72') in the second half sealed the win, which extended their unbeaten run in the league to an impressive 12 matches.

Elsewhere, Willem II and Twente could not be separated as their clash at Koning Willem II Stadion ended in a goalless draw, while Utrecht kept their European challenge going with a 2-0 triumph against ADO Den Haag.

The visitors took a one-goal lead into the break courtesy of Nacer Barazite's 29th-minute opener and Sebastien Haller wrapped up the win seven minutes from time.

Erik ten Hag's side occupy seventh place in the league after stretching their undefeated streak to seven outings, as De Residentieclub remain a point clear of the bottom-three in 15th spot.
