Every now and again a referee will fall victim to a clear dive. That was certainly the case when the Delhi Dynamos faced Atletico de Kolkata in the Indian Super League recently.
Striker Marcelo Leite Pereira, also known as Marcelinho, was the guilty party here.
The Delhi forward made his way inside the area and was quickly closed down by two defenders.
With his touch taking the ball outside of his reach, Marcelinho decided to try his luck and go down:
Wow. What a dive that was. It definitely would have gotten a perfect 10 at the Olympic Games.
But this is football, and unfortunately the referee bought this bit of acting and awarded the penalty.
However, ex-Chelsea midfielder Florent Malouda stepped up to take the spotkick and failed to beat the keeper, so the story had a happy ending in the end.
