AS Monaco defensive stalwart Fabinho reveals how he almost ended up leaving the Ligue 1 outfit following interest from a number of big clubs, most notably in England.
The 23-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in the January transfer window and admits that he initially viewed the French league as an opportunity to move onto bigger things.
"I'm in my fourth season at Monaco," he told Globo Esporte.
"When I arrived, I thought I would spend two years here and then leave for Spain or England.
"There are leagues I like a lot. But here, I've improved and I've picked up experience. I know I'm an important player, and I work for people to have confidence in me.
"Monaco have been very important for me. It's the club that has helped me into the Selecao.
"I extended my contract after the last transfer window. My name was linked to big clubs, notably in England.
"I wanted to leave Monaco then. That was my intention, I thought it was the right moment.
"But as I didn't get any concrete offer, I decided the best solution was to stay here to play in the Champions League and try to win something with this team," he concluded.
In September this year, the Brazil international extended his stay with the Stade Louis II based outfit which will see him being contracted to the side until 2021.
