The Coach: Three favourable fixtures on Matchday 11

No more international breaks until March – rejoice – and Matchday 11 promises to be the perfect tonic following the brief hiatus from Bundesliga action.

We’re in store for a blockbuster weekend boasting several standout fixtures from RB Leipzig’s trip to Bayer 04 Leverkusen, the Rhine derby between Borussia Mönchengladbach and 1. FC Köln and, not to mention, the small matter of Der Klassiker!

However, in terms of Official Fantasy Bundesliga points, those are not the games to be pinning your hopes on, so I’m here to offer up three alternatives that cater to all budgets.

1. FSV Mainz 05 vs SC Freiburg

Mainz have been very hit and miss of late, but I’d back them to do well on home soil against a Freiburg side who have picked up just one win in five on the road this season. Die Null-Fünfer have emerged victorious from their last two outings at the OPEL Arena and, without a midweek UEFA Europa League match under their belt, should be fresh enough to execute their high-tempo approach to proceedings.

Player recommendations

Giulio Donati (DF, 51pts, 10.9M): The Italian hasn’t missed a minute all season, is more than capable of providing service into the box and has won 9.4 challenges per game on average.

Jhon Cordoba (FW, 81pts, 12.8M): Cordoba hasn’t scored since Matchday 3, but has still racked up a healthy 61 fantasy points in his last seven games.

2. SV Darmstadt 98 vs FC Ingolstadt 04

Darmstadt celebrate - FOR FOX ONLY

Last season’s two newly promoted sides are both having a tough time of it as they look to avoid the dreaded second-season syndrome. With two wins to their name, both on their own turf, Darmstadt are faring marginally better, while Ingolstadt will be hoping new head coach Maik Walpurgis can provide a boost as they go in search of their first win of the season. I wouldn’t bet on this match, but it should prove profitable in terms of fantasy points.

Player recommendations

Antonio Colak (FW, 36pts, 4M): Colak should return to the first XI after scoring off the bench against Leverkusen last time out. He has scored 21 points in the two games he’s started on home soil.

Dario Lezcano (FW, 63pts, 10.4M): 63 points despite never being on the winning team is an impressive haul. Lezcano is a goal threat and has picked up 34 points from challenges won.

3. TSG 1899 Hoffenheim vs Hamburger SV

Hoffenheim - FOR FOX ONLY

If results go their way, Hoffenheim could end the weekend just a point behind table toppers Bayern and Leipzig. While those two teams face tough encounters, Julian Nagelsmann’s charges have a chance to protect their unbeaten record against bottom-of-the-table Hamburg. The Red Shorts are still without a win in 2016/17 and have scored just once on foreign soil. It’s hard to see that changing against the thoroughly impressive Sinsheim side.

Player recommendations

Sebastian Rudy (MD, 79pts, 10.8M): Hoffenheim’s captain has scored eight points or more in four of the last five games and has accumulated 40 points from challenges won alone.

Sandro Wagner (FW, 90pts, 14M): The former Darmstadt striker has won an average of 13 challenges per game and has racked up an incredible 57 points in the last five games.

Matchday 11 should provide some real fireworks and potentially widespread implications for the season ahead no matter what the results, so make sure to use your three transfers wisely!
