‘Gerson’s quality not in question’

Former Fluminense President Ricardo Tenorio says Gerson's "quality is not in question" with the 19-year-old yet to live up to the hype following his 16.6 million Euro move to Roma.

Gerson has made just two league appearances for the club as they ease him into life in Serie A, but Tenorio feels he needs more game time while at the same time admitting he must "get acclimatised" to Italian life, and "has a lot of maturing to do".

The young midfielder has been tipped as one of the country's best young players, but fans of I Giallorossi will need to be patient to see him at his best.

Speaking exclusively to Calciomercato, he said: "Roma took him with a view to developing him. I don’t know what the problem is but personally, I think it will take time to get acclimatised and used to the new tactics. He still has a lot of maturing to do.
"He has to get to know Italy and its football. His quality is not in question so he needs time in my opinion."

Tenorio added that a loan move may be the best option for the Brazil under 20 international.

He concluded: "Possibly, but Roma have to make this decision of how to handle him. It may be that if he was to go to another club he would be able to showcase his talent as the boy ultimately needs minutes on the field."
