Atletico Madrid superstar Antoine Griezmann has lauded Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy and branded him as one of the top three players last season.
While Greizmann’s decision to include Vardy in his top three may come as a bit of a surprise, the other two he chose – Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo – was virtually guaranteed.
Last season, Vardy exceeded expectations as he scored 24 goals and notched up eight assists as his side tasted Premier League glory for the first time in history.
“Cristiano Ronaldo first, as he’s won two titles. Then Lionel Messi, because he’s unique, and after that maybe Jamie Vardy for winning the English title with Leicester,” Griezmann said.
As for the coaches that stood out in his eyes, Griezmann hailed Atletico manager Diego Simeone and France boss Didier Deschamps before praising Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri.
“Leicester’s title was unexpected, especially against teams like Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool,” he added. “It’s something incredible that they won the championship.
