Eintracht Frankfurt are keen to hold on to Real Madrid’s teenage defender Jesus Vallejo for another year.
The Spain Under-21 international has excelled in Germany this season, with Kicker magazine ranking him as the Bundesliga’s best centre-back, while last month Frankfurt coach Niko Kovac labelled Vallejo “scandalously good” and said he has “never seen a player” like him.
Frankfurt now plan to extend the 19-year-old’s loan stay at the Waldstadion by another season and will be hoping that Portuguese defender Pepe signs a contract extension for Madrid.
“I will seek talks with those responsible at Real. His outstanding development justifies every effort,” Fredi Bobic, the club’s sporting executive was reported as saying by the ESPN website.
“I also believe it would do him good to win regular Bundesliga experience at Frankfurt for another season. But Real are calling the shots.”
Vallejo, who joined Real Madrid from Real Zaragoza in a five million Euro deal in 2015, told Bild Sport he feels he has made the correct move.
“I’ve hit the bull’s eye with Frankfurt. I’ve settled in really well.”
