Sunday’s Serie A round-up

‘He was smashing it past me’ – England keeper Heaton on Hudson Odoi

Vincenzo Montella's AC Milan returned to winning ways in Sunday's Serie A action, while Atalanta cruised to a comfortable victory over Genoa.

In what was one of the highest-scoring fixtures on Sunday, Atalanta kept pace with fourth-placed Milan as goals from Jasmin Kurtic (36, 45+2) and Alejandro Gomez (84') secured a 3-0 win against Genoa at Atleti Azzurri d'Italia.

At Stadio Ezio Scida, meanwhile, Crotone picked up their first win of the season after seeing off the challenge of mid-table Chievo Verona.

Marcello Trotta converted from the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time, before Diego Falcinelli made sure of the result in the second minute of injury time.

It was honours even at Stadio Carlo Castellani as Empoli held a frustrated AS Roma to a goalless draw, despite boasting just 35 per cent of possession – the visitors created 23 shots on goal, but managed to get just five of those attempts on target.

Lazio stretched their unbeaten run to six games after recording a 2-1 victory against Sassuolo at Stadio Olimpico.

Second-half goals from Senad Lulic (50') and Ciro Immobile (55') put the hosts in a commanding position, before Gregoire Defrel pulled one back in the 57th minute to ensure a tense finish to the encounter.

AC Milan heaped further pressure on strugglers Pescara as Giacomo Bonaventura's 49th-minute goal secured a 1-0 victory at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

Sunday's Serie A results:

Atalanta 3-0 Genoa
